The Wimbledon Way Expands

During 2012, The Wimbledon Way has been helping to promote the rich heritage of Wimbledon.

With thanks to a grant of £45,000 from the Heritage Lottery Fund and sponsorship from Young’s, The Wimbledon Way has developed a website and social media – used by over 1,000 people; distributed over 55,000 information leaflets; put in place way-finding signage along the route from Wimbledon Station, to the Village and on to the All England Lawn Tennis Club; developed free learning resources for secondary schools and promoted Wimbledon at community events.

As the grant funding comes to an end we are working on plans to continue to use The Wimbledon Way to attract more visitors to the area. The plans include extending The Wimbledon Way along The Broadway to include the theatres and extending the route from the Village to Wimbledon Common. There are also ideas for putting in place information boards along the route, installing creative artwork, marking Wimbledon’s association with the Tennis Championships and celebrating Wimbledon’s cultural heritage. Love Wimbledon and the Wimbledon Village Business Association have already pledged their support.
